Unit 3 Marcus Close, Reading RG30 4EB Commercial interior specialist Fourfront Group relocates

Fourfront Group has relocated its London office to a 6,600 sq ft period building over three floors at 22 Newman Street in London, W1. The company moved from Mayfair due to rapid business expansion which has seen it cement its position as a market leader in UK commercial interiors.

The Group consists of Area Sq (design and fit-out), 360 Design Studios (design consultancy), Cube Interior Solutions (fit-out contractor) and Sketch Studios (furniture specialists).

As Fourfront Group is both ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 UKAS certified, its aim was to create a sustainable office environment whilst retaining the

character period features. To this end, Fourfront followed the ‘Ska Rating’ best practice criteria developed by RICS and successfully obtained Ska Gold, which is the highest ranking for an office fit-out.

Central to the project’s success in achieving a Ska Gold rating was the implementation of automatic monitoring equipment which enables the company to use more efficiently all the office energy- consuming systems including HVAC, lighting and AV.

The intuitive system manages meeting room occupancy for maximum productivity and efficiency, “waking up” the room

before the meeting, and “powering off” once the sensors detect when the room is vacated. All office systems are controlled remotely and detailed reports highlight where energy can be saved.

The building had very little in the way of services so a main part of the fit- out was to install all new mechanical, electrical and plumbing services. A shower room was installed to encourage staff to use their bikes as part of the Fourfront “cycle to work” scheme.

The office has been designed to enable the users to feel more connected and the space has been maximised by removing unnecessary

partitions whilst retaining the high period ceilings. The old inefficient lift has been replaced with a central spiral staircase which not only better connects the lower ground floor to the rest of the building, but allows light to flood in to the lower floor.

The history of the building was considered throughout, and the use of modern technologies was complemented with period design features including ‘library’ wallpaper in one of the meeting rooms, a salvaged door as a reception desk and a complete recycled meeting room which includes recycled furniture and carpets.
