Discovering the X-factor that will push your business forward

As a key figure in the global success of shows such as The X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Ellis Watson knows a thing or two about successful strategising.

On the 24 April he’ll be sharing his experience at Barclays’ latest Strategies for Success in Twickenham, arguing how recession can serve as a springboard for positive change in a business. This event brings together leading international business figures and some of our key finance specialists to discuss their approach to strategic decision making.

Introducing our keynote speaker

Featuring roundtable discussions, networking sessions and an interactive panel debate covering domestic and global business prospects, the event’s keynote speech comes from top media MD Ellis Watson.

Currently Managing Director of Newspapers at the Scottish media group, DC Thomson, Ellis Watson is responsible for the company’s regional newspaper business. Prior to this, he held what he referred to as ‘the most exciting job in entertainment, anywhere in the world’ – CEO of Syco Entertainment, the joint venture between Simon Cowell and Sony, where he was responsible for global development and commercial strategy. In other words, Ellis was the man tasked with putting into motion the US launch of The X-Factor franchise, as well as overseeing the continued expansion of both X-Factor and Got Talent franchises into dozens of territories worldwide.

Ellis first made a name for himself, as a dynamic and inspiring marketing director at News International, then in TV where, as MD of production company Celador, he licensed Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? to over 100 countries.

His career has also included stints on the boards of John Menzies, FirstGroup and the role of MD of Mirror Group, where he took on the strategic challenge of shepherding 5 national and 240 regional newspapers through an increasingly formidable business environment.

‘Very relevant, provocative and entertaining.’

Despite his impressive credentials as a businessman, some would argue that Ellis’ greatest talent is his ability to weave his strategic approach and experiences into such enormously entertaining talks. At April’s event he’ll discuss the importance of positioning strategy at the heart of your business so it infuses into your company’s culture, motivating the entire organisation with a passion and drive for change.

‘A useful perspective on the approach to business success in today’s climate.’

Ellis’ talks also offer an inspiring take on the opportunities presented by recession, arguing that a downturn

provides the stimulus to implement cutting edge new initiatives. Come along to hear from one of the media industry’s most inspiring, larger-than- life figures, offering valuable strategic insight balanced with a colourful sprinkling of showbiz stories.

In addition to the day’s interactive panel and keynote speech, we’re also hosting breakout sessions with experts from Barclays tackling the timely issues of risk management strategies when trading internationally and the trends affecting corporate finance activity.

Hosted by former CNBC anchorwoman Kavita Maharaj, the day promises to be an unmissable chance to learn, to network and to inspire.
