PREVCO OPENS BRANCH IN UK
PREVCO subsea housings has opened a new European branch based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
As a US based company, PREVCO has been receiving an increasing number of enquiries from overseas and the opening of the UK branch is a direct response to increased demand. The aim is to replicate the facility in Arizona, USA so it can eventually design, fabricate, test and ship its products to the European market, directly from the UK. This will help to avoid long distance shipping costs, time delays, import duties and communication difficulties caused by different time zones. Overall, the opening of the UK branch will allow PREVCO to respond quickly to its customers needs and supply high quality products at a competitive price.
NON-MAGNETIC TOW CABLE
Novacavi reports it has developed and manufactured a new purpose-built tow cable with non-magnetic metal protection. The tow cable is a customised composed cable with coaxial, power and signal conductors laid up together with an overall torque balanced armour of a special austenitic stainless steel.
It is a load-bearing cable with 40 tons breaking strength and a non-magnetic and mechanic protection which provides - as a result - an outstanding combination of
strength, toughness and corrosion resistance to the entire cable, while guaranteeing best satisfactory service in challenging conditions.
KEEP BREATHING AIR SAFE
Contractors and operators working in restricted or dangerous environments and relying on a supply of compressed breathing air can now remove the risk of contamination, thanks to a new development being marketed by compressor specialists Central Compressors. The Gloucestershire-based company has announced ACG, a British-designed and built multi-sensor gas analyser which has been specifically designed for detecting contaminants in compressed breathing air. The unit continuously monitors the air flow from the compressor, using an array of sensors to measure levels of a range of substances. It offers considerable safety and
efficiency benefits compared with the conventional approach of periodic spot checks.
The unit contains in-built, replaceable sensors for carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, oxygen, volatile organic compounds (oil mist) and water vapour. Both high- going and low-going levels can be reported. Alarm set-points are set by the user as required. The instant a sensor detects a potential contaminant level in excess of the set-point, or usually a low level in the case of oxygen, a visual and audible alarm is triggered. The instrument constantly monitors itself for fault conditions, and sensors can be replaced at the recommended intervals by the user.
BIOSONICS DEBUT MX ECHOSOUNDER
BioSonics is unveiling the MX Echosounder System; a complete hardware-software solution for mapping and assessment of submerged plants, substrate classification and bathymetry.
The MX utilises scientific
singlebeam sonar housed in a rugged Pelican Case with an integrated DGPS and storage for the transducer, cable and fittings. The MX comes complete with Visual Habitat™
software, a powerful new
data processing and visualisation tool developed specifically for the MX Visual Habitat™
software was developed
in tandem with the MX sounder as a means to quickly and effectively present information in a clear and visually captivating display. Users can instantly generate colour-coded maps showing data parameters for each transect including bathymetry, plant coverage and substrate type. A toggle function connects each echogram and data file with a map view of the transect plan. An integrated Google Earth imaging utility provides instant mapping imagery over which habitat information can be superimposed. Data can be processed and maps can be generated within minutes of data collection, all with very little training. User selectable colour gradients allow for easy identification of substrate types such as rock, mud, sand as well as plant density and height. The output is a stunning visual representation of results that can be easily interpreted and quickly communicated.
Development of the MX was driven by requests from resource managers and consultants who needed a scientific instrument for assessing the aquatic environment at a reasonable price point. Effective data visualisation capabilities and ease-of-use were always top-of- mind during the design process of the MX. “We believe the MX echosounder fills an important niche in hydroacoustics.
