European Marine Test Facility
A test centre for trialling marine systems and technologies based in Oban, Scotland. SRSL provides businesses, research laboratories, training and support to meet customer needs. The facility is ideal for testing and demonstrating new technology and methodologies for environmental monitoring and for the development of new surface and underwater devices, particularly autonomous platforms.
“
The combination of deep water and very sheltered conditions in such close proximity make the European Marine Test Facility a very attractive proposition for low-cost trials of equipment, such as the repeated deployment and recovery of our advanced sensor systems, and the mooring to which this was attached.
Dr. Matt Mowlem,
Head of the Sensors Development Group, National Oceanographic Centre (NOC).
UNIQUE MARINE ENVIRONMENT: a variety of sheltered or high-energy marine environments of up to 150m depth, with easy access to deeper waters offshore. Wide ranging oceanographic, chemical, biological and geological conditions within a short distance of the laboratory pontoon.
FLEET OF VESSELS: four different vessels for accessing sites from inshore/intertidal to deep water with the capability for deployment of oceanographic and hydrographic instruments/sampling equipment.
EQUIPMENT HIRE: Hire of marine equipment and instrumentation (CTDs, AUVs, corers, grabs etc).
MOORINGS: in-house design, hire, deployment and retrieval.
TECHNICAL SUPPORT: team of marine scientists experienced in establishing safe deployment and recovery methods for marine equipment. Services in engineering, sea trial planning, scientific data processing, and logistics.
OPERATORS: Onboard expertise for deployment, calibration and data interpretation as required.
GLIDERS: Home to the North Atlantic Glider Base, offering specialist support for Glider and AUV development trials.
”
DIVE CENTRE: State of the art diving centre, including equipment and recompression facilities.
ANALYTICAL LABORATORIES: comprehensively equipped research laboratory including analytical-chemistry, biology, engineering, electronics and lander development workshops.
RESEARCH AQUARIUM: On-site seawater aquarium with environmentally controlled rooms, including a low temperature (-50o handling facility.
C) calibration room, secure storage and
CONFERENCE CENTRE AND MEETING ROOMS: three lecture theatres for 60-120 delegates, ten meeting rooms, two IT suites and laboratory space for 12 to 60 users.
STAFF FLEXIBILITY: Easy access and staff flexibility to maximise use of tides and weather windows.
ACCOMMODATION: SRSL can source sensibly-priced and comfortable accommodation for guests and visitors and advise on travel arrangements.
