Despite the advanced nature of the 3D sonar technology, the Pin-Point system is expected to prove attractive to organisations with a more restricted security budget yet a requirement for the best technology. Marine Electronics is adding an advanced new tool to the armoury of hydrographic surveyors with the introduction of its WideView 3D interferometric side scan sonar. This compact new system provides cutting edge technology that is expected to prove invaluable to surveyors using AUVs, towfish and surface remote controlled vehicles to obtain precise bathymetric data in difficult shallow water conditions. 3D interferometry is at the forefront of sonar technology and has the potential to offer significant operational cost savings by obtaining a wide swath of data in a single pass. This is particularly valuable for potentially dangerous shallow water inshore surveys where accurate data can be difficult and slow to obtain. It also offers benefits to users working in locations where a restricted weather window may limit the survey time available and demand the use of a faster data collection method.


This significantly increased payload, along with a re-designed frame, offers more power and space for fitting a greater range of tools and sensors, including dual Schilling Orion manipulators. Such thruster power means it can maintain position whilst working in strong currents. Its exceptional number of thrusters also adds a reassuringly high level of redundancy. The Sabertooth is a hybrid AUV/ROV concept that has evolved from Saab’s defence industry AUV vehicle, the Double Eagle. By combining the technologies of both AUV and ROV into a single unified resource, Saab Seaeye has created a vehicle with the range and manoeuvrability of an AUV, yet with the tooling capability of a light-work ROV.


It offers the commercial and scientific market a new class of long-range, hovering hybrid vehicle that can go places and undertake task where ROV deployment is difficult or impossible. With its excursion range of 40 km, and depth rated to 3000 metres, it can embark on either long range programmable missions, or under operator control around set targets, with obstacle avoidance and precise manoeuvrability for safe and easy access, including around and inside complex structures, down long tunnels and under ice. In places where access is seasonally restricted, it can remain underwater for a year at an isolated location, ready at its docking station, to be deployed as needed.


NEW LUXUS RANGE


The MacArtney Group has announced the global launch of its new LUXUS range comprising three types of lights, four cameras, two video units and accessories. The entire range has been designed to combine operational and service flexibility, excellent performance and ensured reliability. The compact design is based on 2 standard sized titanium housings that give the entire range a working depth of 4000 metres. Housings are light, strong and non-oxidising for long lifetime and minimal servicing. Their compact size and robust design make them ideal for ROV and diving applications – from shallow dives to deep water ROV operations. Standard sizing also makes camera and light changes more convenient. A camera or light type can easily be removed from the bracket and exchanged with another for a change in application – from low light to colour zoom or HD or high power LED.


Two self-contained video units offer complete control of a range of information inputs and provide safe storage and straightforward, practical control.
