CONSTITUENCY

8

I have been working closely with residents and Councillor colleagues following proposals put forward by the Council to introduce a CPZ-lite zone in South Morningside. Many residents have rightly complained

about the high levels of commuter parking in residential streets and felt that action must be taken. However, when the Council notified residents of the plans, their plans showed that they had failed to take into account the streets where commuter parking was not an issue and hence there was a very mixed response to the proposals by residents. During the consultation period, I received a

huge level of correspondence from constituents and met with many residents at the nearby Open Door to discuss their concerns. Along with Cllr Paul Godzik, I wrote to the Council to make clear that there was a fine balance to be struck with the proposals and that the Council should take into consideration those streets where congestion parking was not an issue. I'm delighted that the Council have now

decided to alter the original proposals so that they are now concentrated in the streets where residents support them because of the severity of

parking problems. It is down to the activism of local residents

that the Council have taken this decision and the efforts of many local people are to be commended. A report on the recommendations has been produced and will be considered by the Council next Tuesday 21st February. You can view the Council's report here.
