Bruntsfield residents will be aware of the sad closure of the former Peckhams. Understandably, a number of local traders and residents raised their concerns about the acquisition of the sight by Sainsburys due to the impact it might have on the Bruntsfield shopping area.
Last week I joined over 100 residents at
Bruntsfield Hotel to discuss concerns along with representatives from Sainsburys and the Council. Sainsburys have proposed to create a shop on the ground floor level and have submitted an application to the licensing board to transfer the premises licence pending Council approval. Bruntsfield is one of the most thriving and
vibrant communities in Edinburgh with a wide array of outstanding independent shops. That's why it is vitally important we all work together to minimise any effect this new proposal could have on the area. I have offered to assist in the creation of a "Bruntsfield Traders Association" to help encourage local residents to shop locally. Special thanks to local resident Cate Nelson-
Shaw and local trader Karen Mackay from Nippers fororganising the meeting and for all the work done by Ibrahim Joulak at the new Bruntsfield Post Office for all his work.
On 25th January,
the newly relocated Bruntsfield Post Office
opened at Bruntsfield News. I'm sure all residents would like to wish Ibrahim and his staff all the best in providing this vital service to the community.
