CONSTITUENCY

I'm delighted to announce that a member from a local community group has been selected to carry the Olympic Torch on its journey this year.
Dog fouling, meals on wheels, long-term care and garden aid were just some of the issues that were raised during my recent debate with the Inch Pensioners Forum. It's great to have a catch up with the older
members of the community and I hope they found the discussion useful. The council are due to investigate the dog fouling which was particularly bad in their area and I am also taking up individual casework on behalf of Forum members who have experienced problems, particularly with energy companies.
Congratulations to Ken Logan, member of the Rotary Club of Braids. Earlier last year, I wrote to churches, charities and community groups across South Edinburgh to let them know about the opportunity to nominate someone to carry the Olympic Torch as part of the celebrations to the Games this August. Braids Rotary nominated Ken and he was selected by a special panel. I have also been working with the Rotary
Club of Braids on the issue of Gift Aid on "bucket collections". The Club do a huge amount of fundraising for causes both local and international and, when I first met with them, they raised their concerns that they aren't able to claim back Gift Aid for these types of donations. I then took this up at Prime Minister's Questions and I was pleased that I received a positive response. I am continuing to push this matter forward.
With energy prices continuing to rise, many people are struggling to pay bills and are looking for ways to reduce energy consumption and save money.
For more info on this, come
along to the Sustainable Energy Fair which South East Edinburgh Transition have asked me to open. Please get in touch if you'd like further information.
