With the Budget only a matter of weeks away, people across the UK will be debating how they would distribute money across government departments. I was interested to learn about the Project, " which gives young people a platform to voice their
views on important economic decisions. Initiated by the Citizenship Foundation in partnership with is an online tool that challenges
Aviva,
young people aged 14-18) to make informed decisions on real taxation and spending policies. In 2011, over 3000 young people participated across the UK which culminated in the publication of their views in the first ever "Youth Budget". I would be delighted if schools and young people in
Edinburgh South were interested in taking up the challenge to learn about and share their opinions on the 2012 Budget. The Project runs from 20th February and participants can
enter into a national competition to win great prizes and visit HM Treasury. For further information, visit

During my first week back from Christmas recess, I met with Citizens Advice Chief Executive Gillian Guy. Local Bureaux in
Edinburgh provide vital
advice to many constituents and are a great help to me in my
role as MP as I will often refer constituents to Citizens Advice as they can provide specialist advice on a range of issues. Most recent figures show that Citizens Advice
Edinburgh dealt with over 27,192 new clients in 2009. The most common types of issues that are brought by Edinburgh South constituents are problems with benefits and consumer issues. The help and advice that Citizens Advide provide is hugely important and I will be working closely with Gillian and her colleagues who are under even more pressure as their funding is cut.
