Constituents may be aware of a number of changes to Lothian Bus services across the South Edinburgh constituency. I have been informed by Lothian Buses that

they will be re-routing and withdrawing several services. The changes include: No.7: extended to terminate at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary to replace No.33 at Ferniehill No.8: re-routed to operate via Leith Street instead of York Place. No.23: reduced from six buses an hour to five No.27: reduced from six buses an house to four No.33: extended to terminate at Sheriffhall Park and Ride, to compensate for loss of 48/X48 but will not serve Ferniehill No.47/X47: Sunday service will be extended to terminate at Penicuik No.48/X48: withdrawn

The 48 and X48 that serve the Park & Ride will be withdrawn completely and the 33 will be re-routed to Sheriffhall. This service has served Ferniehill, Fernieside and the Drums for decades. It will be

replaced by the extension of the No.7 but this will

mean a longer journey time into town. I am concerned that this is most likely to have the worst impact on elderly and disabled residents. It appears that these changes are the result

of the Scottish Government's decision to cut back on the bus operator's support grant for Lothian Buses. I have spoken with the Managing Director of Lothian Buses who has said that these decisions have been taken due to a multi-million pound reduction in their income from the Bus Service Operators Grant. It's disappointing that the Council

administration who own Lothian Buses have failed local residents. Our local bus company is one of the best in the UK and I would have hoped that the Council would have supported them more. I've been inundated by elderly and infirm

residents who are really concerned about not being able to get out and about. I have therefore written to First Bus and Munro's Bus Company to see if they will fill any gaps and have also approached the Council and Scottish Government to ensure that resources are given to serve those most in need.
