Sweetheart Auction Helps Cancer Patients T
he Cancer Founda- tion for New Mexico is holding its 7th
Annual
Sweetheart Auction in Santa Fe on Saturday, February 4 beginning at 5 p.m. at the Santa Fe Commu- nity Convention Center. The Foundation’s Development Director, Eileen Berry,
says, “The event is the perfect opportunity to enjoy a din- ner buffet and support the cause by purchasing items that financially will assist in caring for over 5,000 cancer pa- tients annually in the area. Included in the Silent and Live Auctions are over 200 items and 12 spectacular pieces of art, trips, the opportunity to purchase a raffle ticket for a 2012 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. Items have been donated by many generous individuals, sponsors and businesses throughout our community.” The Cancer Foundation for New Mexico was formed in 2003 as a non-profit organization to respond to the needs of patients with cancer that go beyond medical treatments providing support services for patients, their families and caregivers, and educational programs for the community. These programs and services aim to ease the physical, mental, emotional and financial needs of pa- tients, thereby improving the quality of their lives during a most difficult time. The Foundation began providing hous- ing, transportation and meals for financially-challenged patients in 2005. The Foundation’s volunteers provide many hours of comfort assistance, Spanish interpreters for patients, and many other services including assisting with the February auction.

Therapy Group to Explore Relationship Ambivalence

r. Tricia E. McKenna, Ph.D., of Life Change Psycho- therapy Institute in Albuquerque, is launching a new short-term therapy group for local women who are wres- tling with whether to stay in or leave their relationships. Sessions begin Friday, February 3 and will continue each Friday for nine weeks. “Should I Stay or Should I Go?” will give women a
safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment for exploring the social, financial and emotional ramifications of leaving a relationship, as well as what might be needed to turn a strugg “Too many women wrestle alone with this question,”
says Dr. McKenna, “as they consider whether to stay or leave. The overriding ambivalence can just deepen doubts and fears. This is not a simple or inconsequential decision. It requires courage, support and information. The women who join this new group will find exactly that, as well as encouragement for their emotional journey.” Dr. McKenna is a co-founder of Life Change Psycho-
therapy Institute, PC and a licensed psychologist. She has been studying the impact of stress and loss on relationships for 15 years, and has led many groups aimed at helping men and women develop healthy interpersonal connections. Pre-registration is required, including a free, in-person assessment with Dr. McKenna prior to the group’s first session. The format will be experiential, supportive and educational.
