One haircut makes two stunning looks

“I’m going travelling and don’t want to worry too much about my hair. What should I do to keep it looking good without having to visit the salon? I have a weave with extensions for body.” Delanna, 26

Treat your extensions as you would your natural hair – gently! Brush your hair often, and sleep with it up at night to prevent further damage. Unless you opt for a complete change of style then I can’t say you’ll be able to get away without visiting a hair salon at all, but if you protect it from the sun, use heat protectors before ironing, and prevent it from getting tangled, then you should be able to keep your locks looking good for a lot longer than normal.

Often it’s dryness that leads to itching and irritation, so your scalp may need attention in the form of extra conditioning. Apply a soothing oil to your scalp at night – I use Motions Marula Natural Therapy Hair Scalp Oil, £4.99 – massaging with your fi ngertips and letting the formula penetrate overnight. Your cornrows could also be too tight, so speak to a stylist and get them to take a look to make sure you’re not causing the itching yourself.

up. In particular we’re going to see a lot of side fi shtail plaits – they look complicated but are actually easy to achieve once you get the hang of it. As for cuts, it’s got to be a short and sassy bob, using a straightener to keep things sleek and sexy. Wild and natural ’fros are also perfect if you’re a natural girl, using Motions Foaming Wrap Lotion on damp hair before twisting into sections and letting dry naturally.
