forward to Trailwise each month. Stu- dents and teachers alike enjoy taking a break from the hectic world of the classroom to literally stop and smell the flowers. Teachers find it equally excit- ing when kids who may not shine in the classroom enjoy their moment in the spotlight; over and over, teachers have reported seeing children who struggle academically blossom in nature’s class- room. The confidence these children gain in the outdoor setting translates back into renewed interest in school. Getting kids running around
outside is critically important. Their physical health, confidence, curiosity, knowledge base and sense of adventure all benefit from (to use Thoreau’s words) “going to the woods.” St. Peter’s stu- dents (preschool through fifth grade) are fortunate to have nature’s classroom as such a large component of their learn- ing.
