Faces Behind the Numbers
You know the old saying: ‘When life gives you lemons, make lemonade?’ As it turns out, that’s precisely what specialty retail professionals have been doing during a stagnant economy. Retailers like you have consistently thought outside the box, tried innovative new business strategies and best of all, poured your every bit into specialty retail businesses. The numbers speak for themselves: While overall retail sales grew at a somewhat
sluggish 2.9% from 2009-2010, specialty retail grew by leaps and bounds at a rate of 10.6%*. There are real faces behind these strong numbers—retailers like Barbara Lawson, Ben Wanzo, and Amiee D’maris. Fairly new specialty retailers all, they demonstrate exactly the kind of drive, long-term vision and keen business sense to write their own success stories. These retailers also share this: They were all launched as part of successful entrepreneur programs increasingly being hosted by centers looking to drive new merchants and new concepts to their properties. This issue of Specialty Retail Report takes a look at the rise of these programs and what this could possibly mean for retailers like you.
