[EDITOR’S NOTE] Upcoming Events
The end of the year represents an opportunity to measure our successes, finalize fiscal year-end details, and create new goals in the coming year based on lessons learned. At the same time, we find pockets of peace in which we take moments to reflect and reassess not just our priorities but our strategies as well.
In this issue, we
highlight projects and companies that find solutions where others only found the impossible. In 1921, when ambitious engineer Joseph Strauss took on the dream to build the Golden Gate Bridge, many said it could not be done. While the idea for a bridge connecting San Francisco and Marin County was not
new, between the deep water, heavy tide, currents and 60mph wind, construction was deemed impossible. However, not only did Strauss design a bridge that could handle the challenges the harbor presented, he brought a bid to the table considerably lower than estimated. Looking back, it’s one of the most symbolic accomplishments in our society. We celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge and get an inside look on the world’s most famous cables getting a fresh coat of ‘International Orange’ while profiling the maintenance crew responsible for this national treasure. We recognize Barnhart Crane and Rigging, another industry leader who thinks outside of the box. Barnhart has built a legacy of accepting projects that others consider too complicated or down right unrealistic based on previous methods. Tis is merely a challenge to Barnhart, a company that thrives on the idea that no project is easy and finding solutions is what sets it apart from others. We also feature new product evolutions within our industry that showcases our unique ability to find solutions. From ship-to-shore crane innovations to Miller’s new tag line insulator, or Harrington Hoists’ new series of electric wire rope hoists to RUD’s new ABA load ring, there’s always a way to overcome challenges and push progress forward. Tis has been a great year, one in which we’ve launched our new website and our magazine has grown in presence and subscription base. For this, I’d like to simply say “thank you” for being a part of the Wire Rope Exchange.
Happy New Year!
