Richard Barnhart’s two sons began working for their father when they were in their teens, working iron and operating cranes during their summer breaks. Both brothers picked up their father’s passion for large-scale construction and his ability to think creatively, and studied civil engineering. With Alan as the business leader and Eric as the head engineer, the brothers proved to be a complementary pair. By 1986, Barnhart Construction was focusing on an area where it had always performed well: heavy lifting, rigging, and transport. Eric and Alan,

the new generation of leadership, renamed the company Barnhart Crane & Rigging, and continued to expand the business. In the years since, the company has kept its original spirit of innovation and integrity, and taken it nationwide. Te company’s emphasis on original solutions leads them to take on tricky jobs – and those challenges, in turn, uniquely qualifies them for projects others are unable to accomplish. In Barnhart’s long list of cranes, rigging systems, transporting equipment,

and lifting solutions, many of the items are original, designed by the company as a response to customers’ needs. Tis makes the company able to take on projects under daunting conditions, while still meeting their customers’ schedule and budget needs. Barnhart has earned the Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association (SC&RA) Job of the Year Award 18 times, and a look at some of their recent jobs helps to illustrate why.
