Unto Ahtola as Executive Vice President, Terminals. Unto Ahtola is currently responsible for business area Industrial & Terminal. Axel Leijonhufvud has been appointed to lead the new business area Load Handling as Executive Vice President, Load Handling. He is currently responsible for Supply. These changes would be effective from 1 January 2012. Except for the changes in responsibilities,
the Executive Board will remain unchanged. Business areas Marine and Services continue unchanged. Cargotec’s external financial reporting segments will be Marine, Terminals and Load Handling as of 1 January 2012. Cargotec’s strategy drives towards customer solutions. Cargotec is determined to grow its business by customer focus with a vision to be the world’s leading provider of cargo handling solutions. Recent strategic initiatives such as Navis acquisition and a planned joint venture in China strengthen Cargotec’s leading position in container terminals business. The renewed focus on Load Handling aims to strengthen Cargotec’s market position also in those core markets. In order to streamline the organization, Cargotec is planning to adjust both operations
and workforce in centralized Support functions and central Supply. In addition, part of Cargotec’s accounting operations, Cargotec Shared Service Centre, located in Turku, Finland and Ljungby, Sweden, are planned to be outsourced to an external partner. This change would improve the ability to respond to the demands on global accounting services. It is estimated that these planned changes
would have an impact on approximately 115 employees in centralized Support functions, central Supply and accounting. Therefore, Cargotec starts co-operation negotiations on 27 October in Sweden and Finland.
Most Powerful Air Hoist Lifts 125 Tons What is believed to be the world’s first air operated hoist with a lift capacity of 125 tons has been manufactured by materials handling and lifting specialists J D Neuhaus. This is the most powerful unit in their EH range of handling equipment.
Designated as an EH 125 monorail hoist, the unit operates from a 6 bar air pressure and is equipped with 10kW and 2.8kW rated motors for the lifting and traverse functions respectively. In standard format, the hoist is supplied with a six double-chain mechanism providing a three meter lift at speeds of 0.30 m/min within a full load, and 0.38 m/min on lowering. Horizontal travel speeds of 6 m/min are achieved with maximum load and 8 m/min when unloaded. A two meter length flexible connection is supplied with an ergonomic multi-function pendant controller for precise, infinitely variable control of the lift/ lowering and traverse operations for safe, accurate load placements.
The hoist is designed for operating within heavy industries such as steelworks, cement, chemical, power generation and shipbuilding plants as well as the oil and gas markets. The low-headroom design ensures that the hoist can be used where minimum operating space is available, while an Ex rating ensures suitability for use in hazardous areas where there is a potential risk of explosion. The product is 100% duty rated while also being insensitive to humidity and dust laden atmospheres, and can operate within a temperature range of -20°C to +70°C.
[INDUSTRY NEWS] As with all the JDN high performance
lifting products, standard safety features include a fail safe brake to hold the load in the event of air supply failure, an emergency shut-off valve, anti-climb and anti-drop devices together with an emergency lowering device. Optional accessories include overload and increased spark protection, two speed trolley travel control and rack and pinion drive. Non-standard lift heights and remote radio-control operation can also be accommodated.
AEM Announces Winners of Inaugural Pillar of the Industry Awards The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) and the I Make America (IMA) campaign announce the recipients of the first annual Pillar of the Industry award: Angus-Palm, Caterpillar Inc., International Construction Equipment and Stone Construction Equipment. The four companies were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the people and communities of the equipment manufacturing industry through their extensive I Make America campaign activities. They received the awards last week at the AEM Annual Conference in Aventura, Florida. I Make America is a grassroots campaign that was launched one year ago to dramatically improve American manufacturing policies to create more jobs in the U.S. and keep our economy competitive with other countries. The campaign has enlisted the support of more than 14,000 people nationwide, AEM’s 850+ member companies, and industry organizations. “I Make America’s first year has been a
great success thanks to the outstanding support of our AEM member companies. Four of these companies raised the bar of public affairs advocacy and we commend their efforts through these Pillar of the Industry awards,” said Dennis Slater, president of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM). “As members of AEM, they exemplify the commitment we need from all manufacturers around the country to send the message to Congress and the White House that our economy is in urgent need of a new manufacturing policy that will create jobs.” The Pillar of the Industry award recipients
achieved gold-level status for their participation in the I Make America campaign, including significant employee involvement; outreach to their state, local and federal legislators; and engaging with their communities through social media and traditional media channels.
