WHAT’S NEW MILLER LIFTING PRODUCTS INTRODUCES NEW TAG LINE INSULATOR FOR POWER LINE ELECTRICAL SAFETY MARKET
Miller Lifting Products of Charlton, Massachusetts has announced the introduction of its new INSU-LINE® Tag Line Insulator to assist crane owners and operators in providing non-conductive tag lines for the safety of their ground personnel involved in handling loads in the vicinity of overhead power lines. Miller’s new tag line insulator will be available for shipment starting November 1, 2011. Recent OSHA requirements for crane
electrical safety require that crane owners and operators assure that tag lines used by ground personnel to guide loads be non- conductive when operating within specific distances of live overhead power lines. Since the synthetic ropes typically used for
tag lines can become moistened or contaminated in use, or with age, the degree of their non-conductivity may remain in question. The new Miller tag line insulator, when integrated into the tagline, provides assurance that effective non-conductivity is achieved. Adapted from proven distribution line insulator technology, the tag line insulator is rated for 50 kV at a maximum current leakage of 0.05 mA, and is designed to prevent flashover in wet conditions up to 75 kV at 60 Hz. The new Miller tag line insulator is also the lightest on the market at 2 lbs., minimizing its effect on the “feel” of the tag person holding the line. A brochure detailing the features of the new tag line insulator is available on the Company website at
www.millerproducts.net. Tag line and other power line safety requirements are defined in OSHA’s 29 CFR Part 1926, Cranes and Derricks in Construction. Miller Lifting Products, founded in 1935, is a manufac-
turer of lifting accessories primarily for use with cranes in the construction, industrial, offshore and energy sectors. y
WHAT’S NEW HARRINGTON HOISTS INTRODUCES NEW ELECTRIC WIRE ROPE HOISTS
Harrington Hoists, Inc. has launched a new line of Electric Wire Rope Hoists, the RHN Series. These hoists are offered in two configurations: The Deck/Base Mounted hoist in 2 – 20 metric tons and Ultra-Low Headroom trolley hoist in 2 – 15 metric tons. Both versions are dual speed. The Deck / Base Mounted hoist features a compact, modular design that is perfect for stationary applications or combined with a double girder trolley for double girder crane systems. The Ultra-Low Headroom trolley hoist is ideal for top running and underhung overhead bridge cranes. The compact body and short end approach result in the longest hook travel possible in facilities with limited space.
These user-friendly hoists offer a lifetime lubricated
gearbox and an electromagnetic brake that never needs adjust- ment. The minimal maintenance that is required on the RHN is made simple from rope without special fittings, cast iron rope guide, easy-access controls and motors. Key features include a heavy-duty fan-cooled motor, adjustable geared limit switch, load limiter, secondary block operated limit switch and a motor management device equipped with a count hour meter. Harrington Hoists, Inc. is a Kito Group Company located in Manheim, PA and Corona, CA. and is a leading manufac- turer and supplier of electric and air powered chain hoists, electric wire rope hoists, lever hoists, manual hand chain hoists, push and geared trolleys, overhead cranes, crane accessories and a full line of replacement parts. y
WHAT’S NEW RUD CHAIN INTRODUCES NEW ABA LOAD RING
The RUD Chain Company, the market leader for safe lifting has made an addition to their high-quality lifting point collection. The ABA load ring is forged out of the high strength material CrNiMo, quenched and tempered and surfaced in phosphate for improved material strength and wear resistance. The ABA is loadable in any direction. This load ring was designed to easily replace fabricated load rings that are frequently used; often homemade load rings are not load rated and using them risks damage to your load, but it also puts those who are working around the load in danger. The patented wear marking on both the inside and outside of the body of the load ring allows the user to check the load ring for damage and wear,
giving the ABA a distinct benefit over other load rings. The patented wear marks allow the user to know if there is more than 10% wear on the item, more than 10% wear on a lifting point means the item must be removed from service. The wear marks serve as a dual function because they also show the angle of the sling or attachment point relative to the ABA. The raised material or “dots” are rough indications of 60°, 45° and 30°.
RUD Chain, Inc. continues to strive to develop a safer
means of lifting. All RUD lifting points are tested to ensure quality and safety.

WHAT’S NEW J D NEUHAUS INTRODUCES NEW EMERGENCY DEVICE FOR SAFE LOAD LOWERING
As part of an ongoing safety evaluation for all their products, J D Neuhaus has introduced an emergency lowering device for their EH range of air operated monorail hoists. With this feature JDN complies with the leading standards like NORSOK, specifying an emergency device for the safe lowering of loads in the event of a cut in the main power supply. This new device supplements an existing fail-safe disc brake, which is activated in the immediate event of a mains power failure, ensuring that suspended loads are held safely and securely at their above-floor level until mains power is again made available. JDN monorail hoists with lift capacities from 25 to 60
tons can now be equipped with the latest safety development. This comprises an additional separate pressurized air reservoir tank (maintained at a mains air pressure of normally 6 bar),

with a purpose built hand controller incorporating two addi- tional pushbuttons. The controller provides positive two-handed lowering control, while eliminating the potential for unintended load movement. One button switches between normal and emergency lowering operations; the second button activates the integrated safety brake enabling the safe controlled lowering of a deadweight load. The air reservoir, which is protected by a check valve, is topped-up during normal hoist operations, and contains a sufficient air supply to complete a controlled lowering of a suspended load in the event of a loss of mains air pressure. The NORSOK standard covers offshore cranes as well as
power driven winches and hoists. JDN can supply handling equipment that has been purposed designed for BOP handling. Other essential machinery and even emergency escape products can also be safely and effectively handled,

with the additional features of controlled load lowering even in the event of a total power failure. These JDN products are designed for working in hazardous
areas and are supplied with ex ratings for explosion risks. For more information, visit
