From a quick glance at the site, you see that quite a bit of activity is taking place. On a recent visit there were over 200 challenges – including 17 for Defense, 25 for Energy and the Environment, and 60 for Science and Technology.
Challenge.Gov launched on September 7, 2010 and has amassed some very impressive results: 1,515 solutions submitted and $38 million in prize money awarded. For resourceful companies this open innovation platform provides the potential to pursue R&D in a completely new way – and without winding through the complexity of developing federal contracting credentials to gain exposure and contract awards.
Challenge.gov was created to encourage collaboration between researchers, entrepreneurs, private industry and citizens to solve tough challenges. Te intent is to inspire collaboration to generate groundbreaking solutions in areas that are key national priorities, including green/clean energy, advanced vehicle technologies, and better protection of our troops overseas and our citizens at home.
