EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
The Voice of the Pest Management Industry T
he pest management industry has been shaped by a few important forces— forces that have brought about dramatic transformations in the way we do business. These same influences have been responsible for making us what
we are today and will have no small impact tomorrow. In recent years, NPMA has been faced with the challenge of adapting and
changing quickly in order to keep pace with the evolving industry. We must remain at the forefront of this industry evolution, so we can serve effectively as a conduit of information to our membership. Today, our challenge is ensuring that the voice of the pest management industry
is heard by key legislators and regulators who are in a position to make decisions that will dramatically impact our businesses. If our industry has learned anything in recent years, it is the value of letting
our voices be heard, as demonstrated by our growing successes in the government affairs arena. These same approaches must be used for other aspects of our
businesses, including: ■ Forming coalitions with other organizations that share our concerns. ■ Supporting political candidates who advocate for legislation and regulations that help our businesses.
■ Educating ourselves on not only the problems, but also the causes of the problems, and understanding what is behind them. NPMA is making a concerted effort to accomplish these goals on behalf of the
pest management industry, but we can’t do it alone. Over-reaching legislation and EPA national enforcement policies are being developed under the guise of public protection. There could be an uphill battle to mitigate preconceptions. And, while the issues can be esoteric, there is a very real threat to existing industry norms. On February 26–28, NPMA will be hosting our 25th
Legislative Day, an annual
event designed to bring the voice of the pest management industry to the people who can impact your business’ growth. Make plans today to attend this important event. By sharing information and articulating concerns, you will increase awareness, knowledge and support among Members of Congress for the $6B pest management industry. As you know, in the political arena, strength lies in numbers. Because of that, it
is imperative that you engage today’s legislative environment. By working together to communicate the critical role that pest management plays in public health and safety issues, I believe we can set the stage for a powerful and unified industry, today and in the years to come.
