NPMA LIBRARY UPDATE
Trend reporting can help anticipate pest influxes or situations where pests will be a problem, giving a view of the future by reading the past. NOP is a proactive process, not a reactive one.
NOP purposefully put restrictions on the pest management interventions, because NOP prioritizes
certain treatments over others. These restrict the actions that the PMP can take at any given time without prior approval. Trend reporting can help anticipate pest influxes or situations where pests will be a prob- lem, giving a view of the future by reading the past. NOP is a proactive process, not a reactive one. The professional pest management industry operates very on a reactive basis, serving our clientele as they have problems arise. In the situation of working within the NOP, being reactive will only cause problems by being constantly being the eight ball, asking for exemptions that could have been avoided. A PMP working within the NOP will want to use the historical data to help determine treatments. Some of the data will include past interventions and their effectiveness, any dates or seasonality associated with pest pressures, shipments received by vendors, and locations of stations/areas where pest activity is noted. Trend reporting is a necessity when operating within the National Organic Program. Looking at the
historical data associated with a facility will give the staff and its pest management provider the informa- tion to make properly informed, proactive decisions to progress the pest management process.
