Olympic Torch Relay
Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance has been chosen as one of the starting points for the London 2012 Olympic torch relay in July. Lewisham Council nominated Trinity Laban as the starting point for the Lewisham leg of the relay and is extremely proud that the nomination was successful. The Principal of Trinity Laban, Professor Anthony Bowne, said ‘Trinity Laban was honoured to be taking part in London 2012 history, we also have key Olympic links, as our Stirling award winning Trinity Laban building in Deptford was designed by Herzog and de Meuron, who designed Beijing’s Birds Nest Olympic Stadium.’
OLYMPIC HOPEFUL RECEIVES CELEBRITY STYLING
Greenwich based 2012 Olympic weightlifting hopeful, Zoe Smith, took time out from her busy training regimen to receive a pampering session in local Woolwich hair salon Beyond the Fringe, before the prestigious 2011 British Olympic Ball. Zoe has been a regular visitor to Beyond the Fringe since May, and often has her hair styled in the salon. During her visit to the salon, 17-year-old Zoe from Greenwich was fi lmed by BBC London for a behind the scenes look at her day-to-day life. Her Beyond the Fringe visit was sure to be a welcoming relief for the British weightlifter, who is busy preparing for the London 2012 Olympics. At her fi rst senior international competition in October 2010, Zoe won a bronze medal in the women’s 58kg division at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, becoming the fi rst Englishwoman to win a Commonwealth Games weightlifting medal. Salon owner Bill McTurk stated; ‘We’re so pleased that Zoe chooses our salon, she is a huge inspiration for young people in the area and we wish her all the best for the Olympics next year.’ For more info

The new enterprise comes from the same people behind the Boutique Bakery and Gelateria Black Vanilla in Tranquil Vale, Blackheath.
The Champagne Bar and Gelateria will offer Ruinart, the oldest established Champagne house, as its own house artisan champagne.
The gelato selection will be expanded to include some sophisticated alcoholic sorbetti including Ruinart Rose, Hennessey XO, Mojito and Caipirinha. And just in time for Christmas there will be some seasonal sensations. And in a fi rst for the UK, the shop will provide a touch of ice-cream theatre, with a specially crafted ‘cold stone’ on which customers can come up with their very own unique gelato creation from any one of the many fl avours and toppings. This unbeatable Ice-Cream Parlour experience should be a great hit with all ages.
