back music staff and moving band/ orchestra/choral faculty into general music positions. If this is your story, please come to our introductory sessions and see that general music CAN be a valuable part of a child’s start in music. Orff, Kodály, and Dalcroze are great approaches and methods for teaching music to young children. Tese sessions are ideal for those who are new to the general music discipline, but are also invaluable to new teachers and veterans alike who are looking for new activities.

Please come to the JEM division open meeting on Friday from 5:00–6:15. Tis meeting is for you! By attending, you can help to mold and shape our organization. We are always looking for new ways to serve our membership. We are considering moving toward a luncheon/dinner meeting for JEM with a keynote speaker. Please come and help us plan for the future.

On Saturday, we have added sessions and will continue them into the afternoon.

We’ve noticed that many of you aren’t allowed release time from school on Tursday and Friday, so this will give you a reason to come and pay a special one day fee on Saturday. Call it a mini-conference if you like. With four Saturday sessions, it will be worth your while to come to IMEA, even if you can just attend one day. Of course, we’d rather have you come Tursday, Friday AND Saturday. You will certainly get your money’s worth!

And finally, you’re probably wondering what big name presenters we have coming this year and you won’t be disappointed. Cristi Cary Miller will return to IMEA to present four sessions on Tursday and Friday. She will offer a session called It’ All in a Day’s Work where she gives ideas on using Orff, Kodály, Dalcroze, and Technology. She will also offer a reading session for the Choral Division and a session on assessment in music. If you haven’t been to one of Cristi’s sessions, I can tell you that you will be entertained. She’s a hoot!

Will Schmid is always a popular clinician. Tis year, he comes to us on Friday and Saturday and revives our spirit with three sessions on world drumming and one on guitar. A big thank you goes out to Hal Leonard Corporation and West Music for bringing these two wonderful clinicians to us.

Of course, the above-mentioned sessions are just a drop in the bucket. Come and enjoy sessions on: singing, composing, curriculum development, jazz, listening, Ukulele, world music, inclusion, and many more. Plus, on Friday afternoon, we will have a children’s demonstration group from Schaumburg.

I would like to hear from you but I would LOVE to see you at IMEA 2012. Until then, keep the creativity coming.
