Tey also become leaders in medicine, business, politics, engineering, science… Tey also become leaders of local, state, and national sources of funding for the arts and funding for education.
Collectively, we teach millions of young people who will, very quickly, grow up to be leaders in all walks of life. Te greater the effectiveness of our ability to make music a creative and positive force in those young lives, the greater the societal commitment to arts and arts education. While it is often difficult to keep that in mind with all the pressures we face, it is enough to take special pride in the small steps along the way – the joy of a song well sung, a new harmony experienced, the beaming face of a young composer hearing a piece performed for the first time, the pride of parents whose chil- dren’s lives are changed through music.
Music Education Conference Proposals for 2013
Special things happen in Peoria, par- ticularly in late January every year at the Illinois Music Education Conference. Here performances change lives; clinics inspire, friendships are rekindled and special students and teachers are thanked for the inspiration they provided. Te only thing better than experiencing the conference, is helping to make it happen. March 1 is the deadline to submit your session proposal or concert application. Te orchestra division offerings can only be as good as the submissions received. It is likely that you are involved in professional activities that your peers should know about. Please find time to download the paperwork, write the pro- posal, make the recording. Te division can only be as strong as the involvement
of the members. No matter your special area or the age level you teach, you do have something special to share.
Service Opportunity
Your service would be warmly welcomed as well. Please contact Bill Baar (bill.
baar@d214.org) if you can help with auditions on Tursday, or your friendly division VP if you would like to help with running the orchestras or hosting a clinic. See you in Peoria!
