the Renew Houston Oversight Committee and Past President Lisa Clark will serve on the Houston Planning Commission along with Truman Edminster and several other GHBA members.
• On the national level, frustration abounds as we work to pass H.R. 1755, the legislation addressing acquisition, development and construction lending, as well as appraisals. So far we have secured co-sponsorships from a majority of the GHBA congressional delegation, but there are less than 80 total co-sponsors. Other legislation dealing with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and FHA is also stalled. Work to protect the mortgage interest deduction is ongoing, as well as other measures we are monitoring along with NAHB.
• OSHA Fall Protection Regulations are being enforced all around the country and state and now in Houston. GHBA has offered classes on the regulations and will continue to do so, along with more comprehensive OSHA classes.
Green Built Gulf Coast • The GBGC program continues to gain momentum with builders, remodelers and associates joining. The number of homes certified surpassed 1,400, which is a 600 home increase in the last three months.
HOME-PAC • GHBA’s political action committee was busy interviewing candidates for Houston City Council positions. A complete listing of incumbents and open seat candidates supported by the PAC will be listed in your e-newsletter. Please vote in the upcoming election in November. Every vote counts.
