Dear Fellow Builders:

‘Green’ building in Houston is here to stay. Over the last decade the business of ‘green’ crossed-over to the building industry. Green is the new buzzword in construction and is consistently stealing the limelight and getting publicity on television and in print.

MIKE DISHBERGER, GMB, PRESIDENT

The GHBA offers an exemplary and voluntary green program, Green Built Gulf Coast (GBGC). The program is a recognized adopting entity of the ICC 700- the National Green Building Standard, the only ANSI approved green building program.

WILL HOLDER VICE PRESIDENT

To date, there are over 30 builders participating in GBGC and more than 1,500 homes certified, including Sandcastle Homes, Trendmaker Homes, Lennar Homes, Beazer Homes, Village Builders, Frankel Building Group, Highland Homes and many more. These builders are using GBGC to enhance their competitive edge in the market and to appeal to those forward thinking consumers concerned about the future resale value of their home.

Last month a new study on green certification costs for home building and remodeling in the Chicago market demonstrated the National Green Building Standard is a more flexible, affordable alternative for certifying single-family homes, townhouses and condos compared to other programs such as LEED-H.

The GHBA was committed to adopting GBGC to provide Houston homebuilders an achievable and affordable means of certifying a home as green. Other programs can cost upwards of $250 in yearly fees and $350 or more per project. GBGC costs $50 to $100 a year to participate and $25 to $50 for each home certification. GBGC also has opportunities available for developers, remodelers and associates.

From one builder to another, I encourage you to sign-up and get your homes registered under GBGC.

Sincerely,

2011 GHBA President Mike Dishberger, Sandcastle Homes

2011 GHBA Vice President Will Holder, Trendmaker Homes
