From a technical perspective, Estonia’s approach to regulation is developing. Existing requirements are sufficient to address key areas of concern from a high-level perspective, thereby promoting an iGaming market that is fair, safe, secure and auditable. The regulatory regime incorporates some monitoring by the Tax and Customs Board. Technical requirements are documented from a high-level perspective only. While this successfully provides visibility into the Tax and Customs Board’s compliance regime, it leaves much to interpretation. Suppliers, operators and third-party test houses may find the process of achieving and verifying compliance to be fair and reasonable, but sometimes difficult to define. The Tax and Customs Board has yet to publish more comprehensive and thoroughly-detailed technical standards, which could move them one step closer to being positioned next to other top-tier jurisdictions in Europe and around the world. Suppliers and operators wishing to access the eager Estonian player base should consider setting up the required servers in Estonia, provided that they have sufficient resources at hand for establishing local operations.”

PokerStars.com is one of the world’s largest poker sites and the home of tournament poker and was one of the first companies to be licensed in Estonia
Located in the Isle of Man the company PokerStars is owned by REEL Estonia Ltd and it received its licence from the Estonian Tax and Customs Board in August 2010 to provide services in cooperation with the company Rational Entertainment Enterprises Limited otherwise known as PokerStars.
imG kasiinod as IMG Kasiinod is the operator of the Casino Grand Prix in Estonia and also the operator of the GrandX Online Casino. It is one of four main operators in Estonia of casino/slot halls with around nine per cent of the market
The company’s casino is the trademark and
grew out of Estonia’s oldest chain of casinos, Casino Videomat in 1997, at the time when Estonia’s gambling industry was being reformed. Today the company has 16 gaming halls throughout Estonia. GrandX Online has a variety of games from multiliner, multigame, multipoker and casinos.
Meanwhile on the sports betting side, the state run sportsbook, Spordiennustus, set up the first Estonian internet gambling site in Estonia back in 2004 with their licence to operate fixed odds betting in Estonia.
The company is a joint venture of the Estonian Olympic Committee and PAF and the launch of the new online sports betting system meant the Estonian Olympic Committee gained a new source of income.
At the time the company paid five per cent of its annual turnover to the state, as in any other gaming company. People aged over 21 with a personal code and bank account could play and register via the site
spordiennustus.ee and place bets on anything from 30 to 100 sports events per day.
Sportiennustus is a new company which rents it software from the Aland Islands gambling company PAF which owns 20 per cent of Sportiennustus. Today it is paired with the Estonian lotto site although neither offer online casino games.
