1. Autonomy The £7bn sale of Autonomy to HP represents a great deal for the company’s shareholders, who are getting a premium of 64% on the value of their shares the night before, as well as a boost for British entrepreneurs.
Some, including Shadow Business Secretary John Denham have opted to play the political card claiming this is another British giant falling into foreign hands. The Autonomy sale however, represents a shining example of a British businessman, founder and CEO Dr Mike Lynch, not just aiming to build a £million company but being quietly determined to build a British software giant.
2. Shoparazzi
This funky new app for sale hungry shoppers from Shoreditch- based Geocast is a sure fire winner with three key features found on no other app. It combines advanced store finder maps with a unique search function which helps your track down where you can purchase over 2,000 high street and designer labels and best of all it tells you where to get them at bargain prices!
3. Steve Jobs Steve Job’s announcement in August that he was standing down as CEO of Apple may have shocked the brands legion of fans but it was both inevitable and strategic. Whilst Jobs personal drive, determination and charisma made him an iconic business leader, the Apple boss was notoriously difficult to work with and controlling.
“To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:
I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.
I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.
As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.
I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role. I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you. Steve”
