CAT
At ExpoForest 2011, Caterpillar Forest Products demonstrated its cut-to-length and tree length harvesting systems. The international audience watched as the announcer highlighted features that contribute to the productivity, durability, fuel efficiency and ease of maintenance common to all Cat machines. Show attendees also had a chance between live demonstrations to climb into the cabs and check out the roominess, visibility and operator-friendly controls.
Machines in the live action demonstration included: the Cat 320D FM, a versatile machine manufactured in Brazil that can be customised to perform many forestry applications including harvesting and log loading; the new Cat 584 6- wheel forwarder, designed to
withstand the demanding requirements of transporting large payloads long distances over difficult terrain; the Cat 541, a track feller buncher with the key advantages of multi-functioning, manoeuvrability, lift capacity and quick saw recovery; the Cat 501HD short tail swing track harvester, which is easy to manoeuver in select cut operations and well balanced for stability in final felling applications; and the Cat 545C wheel skidder, a workhorse with the strength and power to handle a heavy bunching grapple with an 8 t load of eucalyptus in the tongs.
In addition to the purpose-built forestry machines, the Caterpillar site showcased several Cat machines for road building, clean-up and other jobs in the woods and woodyard.
