AUSTimber to feed industry revival in 2012
AUSTimber 2012 plans to deliver an “experience of the magnitude of the forestry industry from the trees in the plantation to the loading of logs, chips and fuel onto trucks”, according to organiser, the Australian Forest Contractors Association (AFCA). We’ll be greener; working in a future carbon constrained economy and connecting with consumers who expect industry to use renewable product and leave less waste.” AUSTimber 2012 is expected to be bigger and better than previous years despite the industry downturn over much of the world. The event was last staged in 2008 and attended by over 8,000 people with over 140 indoor exhibition sites 60 outdoor sites and 25 active harvesting sites.

It will be the largest forestry and timber expo in the Southern Hemisphere, showcasing the latest in technology, machinery, products and services for the industry. “Of course, since AUSTimber 2008, the industry has suffered many devastating events, the most obvious being the Global Financial Crisis,” McCulloch said. “We see AUSTimber 2012 as being a marvellous opportunity to announce to the world that we are an Industry in recovery, and that the future looks bright, both in an economic and environmental sense.” The Expo will be held over two
days from March 30-31 and will deliver a “dynamic environment to experience the latest in precision forestry technology with live demonstrations, indoor and outdoor displays”, while the conference will be held on Thursday, March 29 in Mount Gambier city with the theme Precision Forestry. The conference will provide an opportunity to hear from experts – Australian and international – on all issues facing the future of forestry from seed to end markets.
