New handling guidance published Interpave has launched a new guidance document for contractors and specifiers: ‘Handling Kerbs and Flags’. The new guidance document combines and updates two previous, separate publications. It pro- vides guidance on safe handling of kerbs and flags, and illustrates examples of available equipment. This document is available as a free download from the Interpave website and is open for consultation. Interpave aims to provide an essential information resource on all aspects of the paved environment for the widest audience via its website. Here you can download a wide range of documents, which aim to bring together the latest experience to inform engineers, urban designers, architects, landscapers, contractors and others – as well as providing a useful CPD resource.

Dricon hits new heights!

Arch Timber Protection’s proven Dricon fire retardant treatment for timber will be pro- tecting the refurbished Charles Inglis Clark (CIC) Memorial Hut, a climber’s facility on Ben Nevis. Ben Nevis is the tallest peak in the UK, and this could make the CIC hut the highest fire retardant project in the UK. The CIC hut was first built in the late 1920s. It is 685m above sea level and is believed to be the only true mountain hut in the UK. “Dricon is robust enough to protect the internal cladding from fire under the extreme conditions found in the winter on Ben Nevis and is the only BBA-certificated

fire retardant treatment for timber,” says Jacqui Hughes, Arch Timber Protection’s Fire Retardant sales manager.

Aluminium recycling – a sustainable solution Recognising the importance of the sustainability debate, Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems have the Comar 5P.i. ECO window system, which offers the unique cradle-to-cradle properties of alu- minium, as well as answering current demands. Comar 5P.i. ECO has just passed BS7950 at BRE, which provides compliance with Secured By Design. The weather test BS 6375 provides even more reas- surance: air permeability passed at 600Pa, water tight- ness at 750Pa, wind resistance at 2400Pa and design safety at 3600Pa. Comar 7Pi HSD, a horizontal sliding door system, also meets ever increasing demands for energy efficient building materials, this system has

been developed for applications where high specification and elegant solutions are a key design consideration e.g: offices, schools, hospitals and apartments.
