Dorgard bowls over Sussex CCC In order to keep fire doors open safely and legally, whilst allowing customers and staff to move about easily, Sussex County Cricket Club has installed Dorgard wire- less fire door retainers, from Fireco, at their indoor cricket school. Sussex CCC comments: “Dorgard is the perfect solu- tion as it allows us to leave fire doors open, helping injured patients attending our Radius Physiotherapy Clinic, and for those using the sports hall whilst carrying large amounts of kit to enter and leave easily, but of course allowing the doors to close automatically in the event of a fire emergency.” Dorgard enables fire doors to be legally and safely kept open as it allows the door to close when the fire alarm sounds, preventing the spread of fire and smoke.
RIDI Serves up a winner at Warwick The indoor tennis centre at The Warwick University is the first leisure centre in the UK to receive an ‘excel- lent’ BREEAM rating. Constructed to minimise impact on the environ- ment, but also to meet the exacting standards of the Lawn Tennis Association, the centre features natural ventilation for environmen- tal efficiency and the ABR- SPORT luminaire from
RIDI for high performance, robust lighting. Architect, Berman Guedes Stretton, says: “I had no hesitation in choosing the ABR-SPORT for the indoor tennis centre. The sleek look of the luminaire fits in comfortably with the interior of the centre and the specification and performance is perfectly suited to the requirements of indoor tennis.”
A-Safe test for quality in barrier protection A-Safe tests its products in order to protect both its image of excellence and, the image of British manu- facturing at its very best. At the heart of the pro- gramme for A-Safe, was the demonstration depict- ing the strength of the polymer barrier, set against the equivalent barrier man- ufactured from steel. All of the A-Safe product range is
tested, but particularly the barriers that segregate and protect pedestrians from vehicles, or vehicles from ancillaries and vital equipment within the working envi- ronment. The testing is done under rigorous conditions with results calibrated. There are only two official standards for safety barriers and both refer to the spec- ification for car parks: BS 6399-1 and BS6180. All A-Safe barriers have passed this test.

Central Saint Giles in London’s West End is more than just a new office building. Designed by internationally renowned architects Renzo Piano and Fletcher Priest, this ultra-modern complex combines office areas, retail businesses, restaurants, cafes, residential properties and open spaces that include an extensive public piazza and roof gardens for use by the buildings occupants.
Completed in 2010, Central Saint Giles is 12 storeys tall and provides 37,961m² (408,560 ft²) of high quality office floor space. Drainage of the building’s paved piazza area was achieved with 600m of Recyfix® rical and asymmetrical slot inlets.
slotted channels with symmet-
Rainwater falling on the roofs and piazza is collected, treated and stored for re- use in irrigation of the planted areas. It is estimated around 3,000m³ could be collected per year. This, with other carbon saving features, gives the development an excellent BREEAM rating.
Andy Beirne, Hauraton’s project engineer, commented, “Managing a major build- ing site in a very busy part of London was no mean feat for the main contractor, Bovis Land Lease and landscape contractor, Grants International. All the surface water drainage components we supplied had to be easily transported and installed without the use of handling machinery, so our channels, at no more than 17 kg per unit, were found to be ideal for the job.”
The Recyfix® channel components, made from 100 per cent recycled PE-PP, were
matched with galvanised steel slotted inlets with neck height and slot width spe- cially made to match the decorative stone paving slabs used. Hauraton also sup- plied bespoke stainless steel channels fitted with stainless steel, longitudinally slotted heel-safe gratings fitted in front of the entrance doors.

Stirling Lloyd helps fans celebrate After a season to remember for Manchester City, its impressive new outdoor fan-zone at the City of Manchester Stadium could finally play host to supporters with something to celebrate. To ensure that the area will retain its bright colour for a long time, despite the high level of wear from fans, a highly durable, resistant, anti-slip coloured surfacing was required and Stirling Lloyd’s Safetrack SC system was selected. Safetrack
SC’s simple and rapid application as well as the dedication shown by appointed contractor, MW Flooring meant that installation of the brightly coloured flooring was completed on schedule within the tight deadline and to a high standard.
