The best bathroom in the world…? ‘The best bathroom in the world’ is not in some grand mansion, but is the smallest room in the house in a tradi- tional suburban home in the heart of Flintshire. It belongs to retired watchmaker James Randall, who suffers from Inclusion-Body Myositis, a rare and incurable muscle-wasting disease. “You couldn’t swing a cat in it, but to me it’s the best bathroom in the world. It is bril-

liant!” says Mr Randall. His enthusiasm is a result of the equipment now installed – a Clos-o-Mat automatic bidet toilet, Aerolet vertical lift and ApreShower body dryer – which enable him to maintain personal hygiene and cleanliness without help. The Clos-o-Mat, a conventional WC with additional integral douch- ing and drying, was first installed seven years ago and has been in use ever since, by both Mr and Mrs Randall.

Howe Green at the Centre of Research Excellence

The new building for the internationally renowned Business School and Centre of Research Excellence at the University of Exeter has been completed following an £18 million investment.

Howe Green’s 2500 and 5000 Series floor access covers and Tile-a-Door+ wall access panels were selected to provide the best possible solution for easy and reliable access to essential building services. Having researched the options for floor access products in the market, Howe Green was the preferred supplier due to product per- formance, reliability and the company’s reputation for first class service within the industry.

Over 60 floor access covers were individually manufactured in stainless steel to a size of 600x600mm to match the fully bodied porcelain floor tiles imported from Europe. This helped to reduce installation time on site and covers were laid into the substrate in the main reception area of the new Business School. Sitting flush with the floor, the discreet covers provide excellent access whilst posing no trip hazard.

Tamper resistant features give additional security, whilst double sealing makes for perfect hygiene. For access to plumbing points in the building’s new WC and changing areas, Howe Green’s Tile-a-Door+ was the ideal choice for performance and aesthetics. Easy to install, Tile-a-Door+ units are supplied ready to tile and accept up to a 10mm thick finish whilst magnetic latches keep the panel neatly and securely in place.

New Isocrete ‘Green’ Screed powers construction

sustainability to a new level Flowcrete UK, manufacturers of market-leading Isocrete Floor Screeds, has developed a revolutionary new green screed technology that combines a more sustainable product with enhanced performance credentials. The company has given time-proven screeds in their range a green makeover with a new formula- tion that is free from Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), contains 40 per cent recy- cled materials taken from industrial waste, and has a reduced amount of both organic additives and natural silica sand content. Alan Dean, managing director of Flowcrete UK, said: “This is an exciting development for Flowcrete, which will have a significant effect on sustainability within the construction industry. By re- formulating products in the Isocrete Floor Screeds range, we can now offer spec- ifiers improved performance such as improved flexural and compressive strength, with the additional benefit of a significantly lower carbon footprint. The removal of OPC from the screed formula is a fantastic breakthrough, with a considerable positive impact on reducing carbon emissions.”
