Carolyn L. Seigle v. Mass Transit Administration Circuit Court for Baltimore City No.97345009/CC8646


Facts: On April 21, 1997, Plaintiff, Carolyn L. Seigle, age 43, was a passen- ger in a vehicle being operated on Carey Street when the vehicle was brought to a stop with the left turn signal on to make a left turn onto Ramsey Street.␣ A bus owned by the Mass Transit Administra- tion was traveling northbound on Carey Street.␣ It failed to stop and smashed into the rear of the Plaintiff’s vehicle.


Allegations of Liability: Defendant’s em- ployee failed to bring his vehicle to a stop and smashed into the rear of the Plaintiff ’s vehicle.


Injuries/Damages:␣ Ms. Seigle sustained herniated discs at levels C2-3, C3-4 and C5-6, cervical strain syndrome, thora- columbar strain, right shoulder strain, chronic left shoulder strain and plantar fascitis of the left foot.␣ Plaintiff was ini- tially treated at University of Maryland Medical Center from April 21 through 24, 1997.␣ Ms. Seigle was readmitted on May 6, 1997 when she underwent C3-4 diskectomy and fusion.␣ She was hospi- talized through May 9, 1997.␣ Ms. Seigle sustained a 40% permanent disability due to her injuries.␣ Ms. Seigle’s medical ex- penses totaled $30,000.00, past lost wages totaled $10,876.00

Alison Lillie Williams and Kelvin Williams v. Anita Liberatore Iseman Circuit Court for Howard County No. 13-C-97-036778 MT


Facts: On December 6, 1996, Plaintiff, Alison L. Williams, age 31, was operat- ing her vehicle southbound on Snowden River Parkway approaching the intersec- tion with McGaw Road.␣ The Defendant, Anita L. Iseman, was traveling north- bound on Snowden River Parkway when she failed to stop for a red traffic signal controlling her course of travel and at- tempted to make a left turn.␣ As Ms. Iseman began to turn, she steered her ve- hicle into the path of the Plaintiff ’s vehicle causing the vehicles to collide.


Allegations of Liability: Defendant failed to stop for a red traffic signal controlling her course of travel.


Injuries/Damages:␣ Mrs. Williams sus- tained an open fracture of the right tibia and fibula and lumbosacral strain.␣ Her fracture required open reduction and in- ternal fixation to be repaired.␣ Mrs. Williams’ medical expenses totaled $23,000.00 and past lost wages totaled $71,469.00.␣ Due to her injuries she could not return to her employment as a Mass Transit Administration bus driver and was forced to retire.
