Interior designer Blanca Sanchez of Halo Design was born in Paris to a Spanish father and American mother. Drawing on her multi-lingual upbringing, Blanca initially studied languages at university and then pursued a career in publishing. Only later on did Blanca develop an interest in interior design and opted for a career move where she trained at The Chelsea College of Art and Design.

After working for a high reputable interior design firm for 10 years, Blanca took the jump in 2009 and set up Halo Design Interiors where she heads a small team in Weybridge, Surrey.

stand out in my mind are the projects where not only have we enjoyed working with the clients themselves to create the homes of their dreams, but where we have worked as part of a good team with the contractors, architects and subcontractors on site. One project that I am finding particularly

enjoyable at the moment is a ski chalet renovation in Courchevel 1850. I’m having fun playing with the rustic chic interiors and I’m looking forward to its completion in the autumn, in time for the next ski season.

DESIGNER: WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR TOUGHEST DESIGN CHALLENGE? SANCHEZ: There is no one thing that I would particularly pick out, but generally speaking, one of the biggest challenges in design can be taking the brief and interpreting it in a creative and practical way, whilst working within the budgets available.

DESIGNER: WHAT PRODUCT(S) DO YOU MOST ENJOY SPECIFYING/WORKING WITH? SANCHEZ: I adore real stone. There is a resurgence in the use of more classical stone, but in more contemporary ways which I am finding particularly enjoyable. Also, I am enjoying working with interesting metals, such as bronze.

DESIGNER: WHAT’S THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE OF DESIGN? SANCHEZ: It is fundamental to understand the brief – to get into the clients head and see behind their words to get to the essence of what they are asking for. Without an in-depth understanding of this, a design will not succeed. designer
