EVERY

year, around this time, I get a big reminder why my job can be such a fascinating one. With the deadline passed and entries closed for this

year’s Design Awards, the job of sorting through the hundreds of submissions begins. We have received an incredibly wide range of entries this year, with each category

containing some very strong projects and highly creative kitchen, bathroom and living space schemes. Whilst I don’t get involved directly in the actual judging decisions, I do love to see all these projects and can’t wait to feature as many as possible on the pages of Designerin the future. The first task though is to pre-sort all of the entries, ensuring that each one meets the

criteria and all the relevant information is present and correct. Then we embark upon a detailed judging process that will call upon some of the industry’s most experienced experts who will each bring their considerable skill and professional judgement to bear on selecting which designs should be shortlisted. From then on, it gets really tough. All shortlisted entries will be examples of the very best

residential design projects in the UK and to choose three finalists – including an ultimate winner – in each category is, frankly, an almost impossible choice to have to make. But it will have to be done. We hope to reveal the finalists sometime in August so

keep your eyes on our website at www.thedesignermagazine.com and our Twitter account (@DesignerOnline) for further updates. In the meantime, our build-up to this year’s Design Awards event in October will continue

next month when we speak to previous winners about their experience of succeeding at the industry’s most highly regarded design competition. In the meantime, enjoy this issue, and do let me have your thoughts on anything you see

in the magazine. designer
