OMPLEMENTARY health therapies are becoming increasingly popular among those seeking alternatives to conventional medical practices. The holistic approach means that your thera- pist will look beyond your symptoms and view your health and well being as a complete sys- tem. There is treatment available for the whole body, literally from the head to the toe. So, it is important to make sure your therapist is registered with the appropriate professional bodies.


But how do you choose what is best for you and whether it will be of use? See the busi- nesses on these pages to work out where to start.


If you are drawn to softer touch-based thera-


pies then Reiki and Cranio-sacral therapy are a good place to start. However, massage and Shiatsu are often physically deeper. Polarity falls somewhere in between. You also might want to explore well- being through movement, such as Tai-Chi, Yoga or Shakti dance. Alternatively, there are therapies that use light and colour. Using Kinesiology, therapists can tell, through the reaction of your muscles, what your body needs to heal itself. Regardless of what technique you opt for, make sure you separate the opinions from the facts. People’s perceptions of holistic treat- ments are often markedly different to the real thing.
