Onto the new album: Line-up. As much as I’d like to insist that the album title came from weeks of deliberating on such deep philosophical matters as raised above, and aims to question just how important a bands line-up is, we actually arrived at the title via a far less circulatory route: we were struggling for cover ideas when John Slavin, our photographer & sleeve designer, suggested doing a shoot with us in a police-style line-up, just for a bit of nonsense! The title then followed as a happy coincidence.

The album was recorded over the course of the last year and in some ways shows the new line-up’s development over that timespan. There are, as would be expected, some relentlessly driving tune sets highlighting the new weapons of double fiddles and double pipes. There are also one or two more relaxed, swinging instrumentals including a cracking set of 2/4 pipe marches to show that the West- coasters (myself and Alasdair) are getting our say in the repertoire; and also a couple of particularly poignant slow pieces to demonstrate the full spectrum of traditional instrumental music. As will now be familiar to followers of the band,
