was going to be taking a new direction: you don’t lose such an iconic sound as Alan Reid and not change direction! This meant that it’d be easier for me to find my feet in the band and try and add my own musical voice to the Battlefield Band sound. Little did I know that before long, I’d have quite literally added my voice to
the band! Long term manager Robin Morton’s persuasive talents are (in)famous and he took no time in determining what other instruments I could play and had soon convinced me to do some piano and whistle in the set as well as having me do some vocals which has resulted in Gaelic songs being incorporated in the bands repertoire for the
first time ever. For me, continued innovation was always a huge part of the Batties sound as I grew up listening to their records and it’s great for us to come up with a first for the band even after 40 years, and to do it in such a traditional style thus embodying the bands motto, Forward with Scotland’s Past.
