Be a Beekeeper via Lee Extension Classes H

oneybees play a vital role in nature and provide honey for consumption and wax for candles, but their numbers are dwindling worldwide. Individuals that

would like to help bees by learning how to own and operate hives as a business or hobby can take a four-session introductory beekeeping course conducted by the Lee County Extension and the Beekeepers Association of Southwest Florida. On consecu- tive Fridays, beginning July 1, classes begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Extension Office in Fort Myers, followed by afternoon visits to area beekeepers in North Fort Myers and Cape Coral. Session topics will include the behavior and history of honeybees; how to get started in beekeeping; harvesting; and advanced management, including dealing with diseases and other enemies of bees.

Prepaid, registered students receive a full start-up kit, in- cluding a bee veil, gloves, bee box and instructive materials. The first class can be made up if space allows.

Fee: $175 includes all instruction and kit. Morning session location: 3406 Palm Beach Blvd. Transportation provided to afternoon sessions if requested. For more info or to register, call Claudia Silveira at 239-533-7574 or Don Murray at 239-267- 9776, visit Lee.ifas.ufl.edu or email CSilveira@LeeGov.com.

In-Home Raindrop Technique Now Available

L

icensed massage therapist Evelyn M. Sinclair, BA, dba Naples Visiting Mas- sage Therapy, is now offering 90-minute Raindrop Technique sessions in the privacy of one’s home. Combining massage, reflex- ology and 12 essential oils, the technique is a unique modality created by Gary Young, founder of Young Living Essential Oils. Sinclair adds an extra 30 minutes to

the usual hour-long treatment to accommodate more massage and Reiki. “People who have received the 90-minute session are pleased with how powerful and long-lasting the effects of this combination are for them,” she advises. “The therapeutic benefits of each individual essential oil or blend used in the basic Raindrop Technique range from antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal benefits to muscle relaxation.” Sinclair says the holistic treatments can also help relieve stress and anxiety and reduce inflammation.

Individuals that do not have a quiet, private space in their home to receive a session can be accommodated at Sinclair’s office one day a week.

Cost: $150, includes $25 for the 12 essential oils used during treatments. For more info or to schedule an appointment, call 239-961-3902. See ad, page 26.
