The Home Technology Event takes place at ExCeL London, (28-30 June) and is designed to help all professionals working with technology in residential environments. Interior designers will be able to find out about smart home technologies and how they can be successfully concealed and integrated within residential design schemes.

DESIGNER: WHAT’S YOUR ADVICE FOR DESIGNERS WHO MAY BE SCEPTICAL ABOUT TECHNOLOGY? COCHRANE: I for one am excited when there is new technology that can make the experience of being at home a more pleasurable one, but it has to be seamless and invisible. The clutter of switches and wall mounted displays along with an armful of remote controls is becoming a thing of the past. New electronic technology is complementing the space and that has helped me embrace it even more. As designers, we are able to use our skills to effectively disguise the technology within the home or use it to improve our schemes even more. This ability has been there for several years but now it is far simpler to achieve. Technology is making us look good!

DESIGNER: WHERE CAN DESIGNERS FIND OUT MORE? COCHRANE: A visit to the Home Technology Event (28-30 June, ExCeL London) is a great place to start. As part of an interior- themed afternoon of talks, I’ll be discussing some of these issues in more detail in the Hub Seminar Theatre programme (4pm on Tuesday 28 June). Staffan Tollgard and Sue Timney are

also involved in these special education sessions which begin at 2pm on the same day. designer

They will be able to learn from their peers in the Hub Theatre seminar programme, see the latest audio, TV, home cinema, lighting and other innovations and gain an understanding of how these products and systems can enhance the living spaces and environmental credentials of their schemes.

Organised by Upper Street Events on behalf of the trade association CEDIA (the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association), the Home Technology Event is the only annual trade show and education event in the UK dedicated to the design, installation, integration and concealment of home electronic systems. On show will be technologies used in whole-home audio and TV distribution systems, home cinema, lighting, HVAC and security control, data networks and other electronic sub-systems.

New this year will be feature zones and interactive elements which will add an extra level of interest to designers who are not particularly experienced with working with complex home technology systems.

Following the talks in the Hub Seminar Theatre, visitors will have the opportunity to tour the show floor and familiarise themselves with the key systems and products from more than 170 brands in the industry. They will also benefit from seeing dedicated room set spaces where the latest products are showcased in practical, realistic settings.
