are definitely the sort of people that enjoy what we do – they’re always up for a party!” Being in front of large audiences is something that, despite not being planned, doesn’t bother them. Phil remarks: “We’ve been on so many stages in our lives that nerves simply don’t come into it. It’s not bravado, it’s simply that we’ve done so many gigs over our lives we’ve gone through the nervousness stage, which we both very definitely had, and have just become acclimatised to it. We both feel very comfortable on stage, very much at home. In fact, maybe because we’re doing these big venues now, after we thought our ‘being in a band’ period was over, we just enjoy the experience.”

And the future? Well, their fourth album is released at the end of May for starters. “We’re having fun,” says Ian, “and still get a kick out of finding a great song to do and sitting down thinking ‘how on earth are we going to manage that on two ukes?’ before setting to work.” Phil continues, “We love being on stage performing and we’re lucky in that we also love the travelling around. We’re fortunate in that we’re good mates; we’ve developed that telepathy you usually only see in old married couples. And that really helps when you spend so many hours in very close proximity, travelling the country in a tiny car.”

Their ‘tour bus’ is a Nissan Micra, which seems wholly appropriate for a band whose motto is ‘Because size isn’t important.’
