Gary had a baby, well his wife had a baby, so we arranged for things to slow down a bit so he could be close to home, and now with this acoustic tour, things are officially started again.”

The fact that the group specifically designed the tours around Gary’s home life again shows just how much they care for each other and how they have full control of the Bowling For Soup wagon. They know where it’s going and how they’re going to get there.

“About fifteen years ago, Jaret and I started doing acoustic shows in pubs, playing for tips, after about three weeks of that, we realised we were making a lot of money doing it and that was how we were able to first quit our jobs. So we’d do that for three nights a week, the rest of the time we did Bowling for Soup until once the band took off and we didn’t have time for it anymore, but we’d book acoustic shows a couple of times a year and we would do that as a special treat for ourselves, then a couple of years into it, we saw people flying in from the UK and all other parts of the U.S to Texas to watch this little acoustic thing we were doing, so about four years ago we mentioned it to our booking

agents and promoters over here to tell them what was happening and see if it was worth a shot to bring it here and do a couple of shows, and last year, it started out as a four day promotional deal or whatever, and it sold out really quickly, so we were like “ok, lets add some more shows” and we ended up making a whole tour out of it, by day four it was going so well we said, we gotta do it this year. So the plans for this tour started midway through last year’s tour. “

Erik also feels the vibe from the acoustic shows compared to their other tours is completely different, and likes that the fans get to see a different working of Bowling for Soup songs, slowed down a bit, made more personal. He tells me how the mindset is different for the acoustic shows and can bring new ideas and concepts behind each song.

During the interview, we also spoke about WrestleMania, Erik was shocked that the Road Warriors were being inducted into the hall of fame, and even more shocked that Hawk was dead, “you know, more of my British friends get excited about Wrestling and WWE than my American friends.”
