John‘s core interest is dance music. Before getting into playing Morris tunes on the melodeon he was an obsessive collector and occasional DJ of ‚70s disco singles. His interest in English folk music is really an extension of that - a desire to work out what it is that makes people want to dance. I, on the other hand, come much more from a background of lyric based music and the creation of atmosphere through music to support the lyric.

Before getting heavily into English folk song I was already a big fan of people like Tom Waits, Kate Bush, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, for whom the creation of another world for the listener is far more important than trying to make them want to get up and dance.
