Bob Farr, Center for Congregational Excellence Director, presented the Harry Denman Award, sponsored by the Foundation for Evangelism. Recipients were certified lay minister Margie Briggs of the Calhoun/Drakes Chapel Charge, and Michael Schreiner, pastor, Morningstar UMC.
Larry Fagan, General Conference Lay Delegate, gave a report on the ratification of 32 Proposed Constitutional Amendments: 27 failed, five passed. Tose ratified by two-thirds of all annual conferences were: Amendment VIII. Concerning Adding Gender to List of Categories; Amendment IX. Minimum Membership for Jurisdictional Conferences; Amendment XVII. Giving Lay Members of Committee on Investigation the Right to Vote; Amendment XIX. Expanding Right to Vote on Clergy Delegates to General and Jurisdictional Conference; Amendment XXII. Jurisdictional Alignment of Bermuda. Larry Fagan said all amendments concerning the worldwide nature of the church failed, due to a flawed process.
Lynn Dyke, Council on Finance and Administration Chair, made a motion for final consideration of the budget beginning with the Moving Policy on page B63. MOTION PASSED.
Lynn Dyke made a motion to approve the 2010 Policies and Procedures of the Council on Finance and Administration on pages B56-B61. MOTION PASSED.
Lynn Dyke made a motion to approve the Council on Finance and Administration Standing Rules on pages B42-B46. MOTION PASSED.
Lynn Dyke made a motion to approve the 2011 Budget on pages B48-B55. MOTION PASSED.
Larry Fagan, Episcopacy Committee Chair, reported that the bishop’s vision for the conference is becoming more of a reality with the implementation of the five practices and visionary pathways. Tey assist local churches in inviting the un- churched into a relationship with Jesus Christ. Larry Fagan said that the bishop’s latest text, Five Practices of Fruitful Living, will help deepen the spiritual lives of individuals and accelerate conference momentum.
Jim Barnett, Sessions Committee Chair, asked conferees to complete an evaluation form, and recycle name tags and binders. He announced that next year’s annual conference will be held June 3-6, 2011, in Springfield.
Bishop Schnase thanked Sherry Habben and the behind-the-scenes organizers, staff, technical supporters, ushers and greeters, and all who make annual conference possible.
Emanuel Cleaver II, African-American Leadership Development Assistant to the Bishop, reminded the conference that in all circumstances everyone should trust the powerful ways God will use us to accomplishment the mission.
