Sunday, June 6 – Afternoon Session
Bishop Schnase called the Business Session to order at 2:02 p.m. by reading from Luke 9. Douglas Powe led the opening prayer. Bishop Schnase announced two offering collections.
Marianne Inman, Central Methodist University President, announced a dozen degree granting sites, in addition to Fayette. Enrollment is over 1,000 students for the second year in a row. UMC student registration is up 20% from last year. Te newest campus location is in the Maryland Heights, St. Louis area. Campus upgrades are ongoing and a new chaplain, Lucas Endicott, has been hired.
Marsha Kerr, Clergy Support Team Chair, introduced presenters. Te Clergy Report is on pages B64-B67. Te Clergy Support Team Policies and Procedures is on pages C7-C11.
Steve Pinnell addressed clergy and spouse benefits. Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution plans will continue in 2011. A 2% increase is recommended.
June DeWeese announced an 8.1% Health Flex medical insurance premium increase. Currently there are 29,000 participants and families in 30 conferences.
Dan Adkison announced Health Flex incentive programs for walking. Blood test results are required to complete an online healthcare questionnaire. Completion will prevent an added surcharge to deductibles if completed by September 31, 2010. Healthcare reform includes coverage for dependents through age 26.
Marsha Kerr made a motion to accept the pre-1982 annuity rate change of $510 per year on page B65, and to accept the Clergy Support Team Report without further changes. MOTION PASSED.
Marsha Kerr made a motion to accept the Proposed Budget for 2011 on page B67. MOTION PASSED.
Marsha Kerr made a motion to approve the Resolutions Relating to Rental/Housing Allowances for Retired or Disabled Clergypersons on pages C10-C11. MOTION PASSED.
David Atkins, Missouri United Methodist Foundation Executive Director, reported on scholarships, programs and services. Grants awarded totaled $199,690 and scholarships awarded totaled $104,750 to 23 seminary students. Missouri contributed more to the Dollars for Scholars Program than any other state.
Larry Tucker, Conference Chancellor, reported that through negotiations the Huffman Memorial UMC lawsuit concerning misconduct allegations in 1970-71 has been amicably resolved. Two lessons were learned: (1) Safe Sanctuaries policies
