Finding the right stunning location for a tub can make all the difference
I
f you want to add a hot tub to your home, the secret is to use a little imagination.
One of the themes behind the popularity of hot tubs is not just the health and lifestyle benefits, but the way owners are finding stunning locations for their tubs.
Outdoor garden sites, given some thought, can
provide sensational positions and add dramatically more value to a home with a landscaped area built specially for the hot tub.
The site for this wooden hot tub installation,
made from Canadian kiln dried cedar, started out by being just a corner of a field at the bottom of a garden in Dartmoor National Park. The owner wanted a tub which would be part of the garden yet a separate play area for a growing family. The tub was fitted last summer by Phil Rathbone
from Riviera Hot tubs from Maidencombe in Devon. “The garden had some great views and when the owner decided he wanted an outdoor hot tub we started looking around and the best option seemed to be to use just an extra piece of a field which annexed the garden. It was just outside the garden gate. We brought in a landscaping

company and met up and decided to make as much use of the natural stone as we could as a feature of the area. Decking was always going to be used to make it more of a flat play area and we wanted to half submerge the pool and provide stone slabs combined with the decking. “The finished 2.1 metre tub I think looks so much better because it’s made from wood. The tubs have an aesthetic and tactile quality. We believe natural wooden hot tubs are an absolute pleasure to use and a beautiful addition to any garden landscape, be they freestanding or built in to new or existing patios or timber decking. The craftsmanship of these tubs you simply can’t get in mass produced plastic spas, not to mention the touch, feel and smell of beautiful cedar wood,” added Phil. The end result was a picturesque and practical hot tub for the family with the owner ‘thrilled’ with his investment. Riviera Hot Tubs is a member of the British and Irish Spa and Hot Tub Association (BISHTA) and the Dartmoor installation won Riviera Hot Tubs a gold award at the 2011 BISHTA annual industry awards in February.
