the Okanagan Sky | BY KATIE NICHOLLS W

ant to experience the Okanagan like never before? Take to the skies and try one of the world’s most exciting and thrilling adventure sports at the Okanagan’s number one skydiving school. As someone who has fallen in love with skydiving, let me give you some insight into the sport and the fun that can be had at Okanagan Skydive.

There are two ways to experience your fi rst jump, either a Tandem jump or through the fi rst jump course with Instructor Aided Deployment. With over 19 years experience, Okanagan Skydive have fully certifi ed instructors to give you all of the necessary training to take to the skies with confi dence. Safety is the top priority for each and every jump.

14 YLW.KELOWNA.CA Tandem Jump

Within seconds you reach speeds of over 120 miles per hour in freefall. 30 seconds later, at fi ve thousand feet, you feel the gentle tug of the canopy opening. In the silence of the canopy ride, you hear your heart pounding from the excitement. The next 5 to 10 minutes you fl oat through the sky, absorbing all the breathtaking views.

The Tandem skydive is designed to provide a personalized instruction in freefall and canopy control with minimal ground training time. After approximately 30 to 45 minutes of instruction, you and your instructor will fl y over two miles above the beautiful Okanagan, taking in the sites of the valley. Safely attached to your Tandem Master, you exit the aircraft

and freefall together. Once under canopy you will receive instruction in parachute control, steering and landing.

Having done a Tandem Skydive while traveling I decided that I wanted to try and learn to skydive myself so I phoned Okanagan Skydive to book a place on their First Jump course.

First/Solo Jump

After 4-6 hours of instruction you will be able to confi dently exit the aircraft at 3,500 feet. Your parachute is activated by your Jumpmaster and during the 4 to 5 minute glide to earth, an instructor will guide you by radio to a soft tip-toe landing. Parachutes are completely steer-able and allow your complete control.
