industry news Completion of Skanem

Newcastle retail food deal Skanem has announced that Skanem UK has completed the sale of its retail food labelling business at its Gateshead operation to Paragon Print & Packaging (Holdings) Limited with effect from 7th February, 2011 as a part of Skanem’s strategic changes in the UK region. Managing Director of Skanem UK, Steve Dunne says: ‘This is part of our strategic changes we are effecting in the UK. We have grown rapidly both in the Multinational and the Domestic market in recent years, but with such growth comes the necessity to focus on core markets and core activities. The expectations from various markets are becoming more demanding. As a consequence, we will focus on serving the growing portfolio of ‘key strategic’ customers as we do not want to give our retailer customers reduced service expectations in the future. We want to continue our focus on high quality customer relations.’ For more information call 0151 482 3800 or visit www.skanem.com.

Alexir Packaging fully operational after fire

Alexir Packaging, the packaging manufacture business of Alexir Partnership, is now fully operational at its new factory in Edenbridge, Kent; just twelve weeks after fire suddenly broke out on one of the printing machines, leading ultimately to the complete destruction of its Crawley production facility. The first complete live production job to leave the new plant took place on 3rd February 2011. The 40,000 sq ft purpose built print factory is approximately 33% larger than the previous Crawley production facility. The new state of the art machinery being installed includes Fuji pre-press, Komori print, Bobst cutting and creasing and Kohmann windowing, which will minimise lead times and will give some of the best colour control and quality in print.
