An Astrological Reading for the Egyptian Crisis

By Steffan Vanel

First I want to say that I have been to Egypt, and I pray now for the friends I made there, and for her people as a whole, while they go through this challenging/difficult but revolutionary time.

Looking at the Astrology involved in their current expe- rience I am afraid it may be a while before a fully stable peace returns.

There are various Astrological charts one can use for Egypt, but the one that stands out the most to me is the one for the Proclamation of Independence from the British Protectorate in 1922.

What presents itself immediately in that chart is a Pluto/Saturn square which is currently getting hammered by transiting Pluto and Saturn in the sky right now.

In my Astrological work I rely exten- sively upon the Karmic Astrology channeled from the Ascended Master Hilarion. In refer- ence to the mean- ing of Pluto/Saturn aspects he says they are an indication of: “an extremely far-reaching change being required…. one which in almost every case will be forced upon the individual by events or circumstances beyond his control.”

The Saturn end of this tension is in the Fifth House of Parent/Child Relationship of which Hilarion says:” it may be concluded that the relationship with the father requires a good deal of effort.”

When one looks at the current and previous presidents, Anwar Sadat, Nasser, etc. they definitely play a role and assume an enduring presence and legacy far beyond a normal president. I noticed this in the comments Egyptian people made about long-gone presidents in their past. Imagine if we in the U.S. had a president for 30 years, there would definitely be some archetypal father energy being created.

There is also the overriding legacy of the pharaohs of 16

Ancient Egypt who ruled for as long as they lived and were irreproachable semi-divine beings.

Their over-bearing presence may be mitigated some- what if it was commonly accepted that the pyramids were not tombs for the pharaohs but in fact initiation chambers. This would seem obvious in light of the fact that the pharaoh who started each pyramid had no hope of it reaching completion in their lifetime.

The Saturn square to Pluto in the Egyptian natal chart brings in an unavoidable Plutonian death/rebirth karmic theme in relation to father figures. This is relatable to the assassina- tion of President Anwar Sadat, but also to the Plutonian, auto- cratic, secre- tive, manipula- tion and control of President Mubarak.

T r a n s i t i n g Saturn in the sky has been conjuncting the Egyptian natal Saturn (a Saturn return) making this karmic les- son involving

father relationship very real and concrete, and restric- tive, lately.

Transiting Pluto in the sky has been squaring this natal Saturn providing an even greater impetus for compete death/rebirth transformation of that limiting, restrictive, Saturnian karmic father relationship.

What makes me feel that this could be a long process of intense transformation for Egypt is the fact that transiting Pluto is slowly moving into opposition to the Egyptian natal Pluto.

With the natal Pluto being in the Taurean Second House of Money and Finances there is, at the least, the likeli- hood of some serious economic stress following the Saturnian father-figure karma, as well as a transforma- tion of the economic realities of the Egyptian people. This Pluto opposition doesn’t peak the first time until January 18, 2012, hitting again in July and November.
